Our first guest Judie Mancuso, founder and president of Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL). Thanks to her tireless efforts, Governor Jerry Brown has just signed into law a bill that will curtail the flow of puppy mill dogs into the state. Pet stores that want to sell dogs, cats and rabbits will have to get their animals from rescue groups and shelters instead of cruel commercial out-of-state breeding facilities.
Dr. Robert Reed then comes on to discuss overweight and obese issues in dogs and cats. About 50% of cats and 40% of dogs are overweight or obese. Causes, medical consequences and approaches to trimming down our pets are discussed.
We continue with Patrick Rose, Executive Director of Save the Manatee Club. The majestic and peaceful manatee needs continued protection, and Rose, an aquatic biologist who has led the group for decades, gives us the complete story.
