On this show, Lori welcomed Dr. Lori Marino back to the show to discuss the growing phenomenon of using captive dolphins as tretment for a variety of human maladies, such as autism. Marino is an Emory University Neuroscientist and Executive Director of Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy and is one of the world’s leading experts in cetacean communication and cognition. She claimed that there is no scientific evidence the use of of dolphins adds anything unique to the therapies. And of course there are risks to the patients and the significant problems with confinement of the dolphins Dr. Marino also criticized the newly described practice of women giving birth in a tank with a dolphin present. She also discussed her role in the soon to be released film, Blackfish, so look out for that!
