Two great guests appeared on this show. First, California Assemblymember Richard Bloom joined Lori to discuss the Orca Welfare and Safety Act. The goal of this legislation is to phase out killer whale captivity in the state. Mr. Bloom is the bill’s sponsor, and he explained how he became interested in this topic, what exactly the law would do, and possible opposition. This is a huge step on behalf of captive whales, so please listen to his comments (link below).
Then, Kim Sturla, co-founder of Animal Place discussed their campaign, Food for Thought. Animal Place is asking California shelters and SPCAs to adopt cruelty-free menus for their official events. Lori strongly supported her! Then we discussed the shrinking greyhound racing industry, the latest from Sea Shepherd, and what happens when a petting zoo gets shut down.
