This show featured two fascinating guests. Lori first welcomed Patrick Battuello, who writes the blog, Horseracing Wrongs. This summer, an unusually large number of horses are breaking down at the Del Mar, California track. Usually, this means the horses get euthanized. Patrick is a vocal and extremely knowledgeable critic of racing, and discussed what is happening at this particular track, as well as the various ways the so-called sport of kings is extremely cruel to horses.
Then, Ebola expert David Sanders, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Purdue University joined Lori. With the heightened anxiety about this deadly disease due to the Western African outbreak and the two sickened American doctors being evacuated to Atlanta, Lori quizzed David about the virus’s behavior, its host animals and how it harms people and animals.

Plus, Peter presented some news items, including a study of hospitalized joint replacement patients showing that those visited by dogs requested less pain medication.
