This show featured three guests from around the US. First, Lori spoke with Jonathan Plesset and Brad Childs, co-founders of Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team (PAART). These aviators have used their flying skills to begin and grow a regional air transport group, specializing in dogs in need of urgent relocation. They offered a lot of information, including advice on how others can begin an animal air rescue operation. Their site is here.
Then we visited the Hawaiian island of Lanai, where Lori chatted with Kathy Carroll of Lanai Animal Rescue Center. This highly rated visitor attraction is actually a cat sanctuary, with over 400 felines safely housed in a garden setting. Kathy explained the origins of the Center and why it is preferable to traditional feral cat management methods on this small island. Visit them here.
Peter then spoke with Patrick Battuello from Horseracing Wrongs. Patrick follows and documents the all to frequent deaths associated with the so-called sport of kings, and 2014 was a typical bad year for the horses. Listen in and see if you agree that horse racing should simply be ended. The website is here.
To conclude the show, we discussed our close encounters with desert critters like snakes, spiders, and scorpions and how tennis racquets and lacrosse sticks help us happily co-exist.
