Big show here.
First Lori was joined by Camilla Fox, Founder and Executive Director of Project Coyote. Camilla explained the origins and ongoing practice of having contests to kill wildlife, typically done under the guise of conservation or protection of agricultural interests. California has banned the practice and now Project Coyote and other groups are working to eliminate hunting contests in Nevada and Idaho. Fox also updated us on her efforts to end the trapping of bobcats in California. There is great demand for the pelts of these beautiful cats, and although California has some protected zones where no bobcat trapping is permitted, the law should be strengthened to ban it completely in the state.
Then Lori spoke with Dr. Joel Wolfson about the medical and behavioral problems associated with dog and cat devocalization. Legislation to ban this cruel and unnecessary practice has been introduced in New York State.
And, it’s Earth Day (actually, Earth Week), and Lori gave the history of this yearly worldwide event, and described how it has grown and evolved since it started in 1970.
