This week’ show is packed with a variety of hot animal stories and fascinating guests.
Lori’s first guest is Fia Perera, co-founder of the USA Chapter of No To Dog Meat. It can be hard to think about, but man’s best friend is consumed for food in many places in China as well as Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Unbelievably, it even happens here in the US! The organization No To Dog Meat is working to oppose and end this horrific practice.
Then, Peter speaks with attorney Natalie Prosin, Executive Director of the Non-human rights project, continuing our coverage of three groundbreaking lawsuits in New York on behalf of four captive chimpanzees. Justice Barbara Jaffe’s recent ruling did not give Prosin’s team all they wanted, but it looks like the goal of achieving greater legal rights for highly intelligent animals is becoming much more likely.
Another attorney is our third guest. Eric Glitzenstein, representing American Bird Conservancy, speaks with Peter about an important legal victory they just achieved on behalf of bald and golden eagles around the country. Wind energy companies, whose turbines harm and kill vast numbers of raptors and bats, will now be more tightly regulated, with shorter duration permits. It’s good news for the birds.
Finally, Lori wraps up the hour with yet another lawyer (actually a former lawyer), Buzz Miller, founder of PACT, which stands for People + Animals = Companions Together. This super enthusiastic advocate for people and their dogs and cats describes their unique programs for providing pet foster care for service men and women who are called away from home, and other emergency situations.
