This show begins with Peter, Lori and legal expert Bob Ferber talking about two monkey cases in the news, the monkey selfie incident, and the mail-eating escaped pet monkey. Then Lori talks about disaster planning for our companion animals. Eric Glitzenstein, representing American Bird Conservancy, then speaks with Peter about an important legal victory they just achieved on behalf of bald and golden eagles around the country. Wind energy companies, whose turbines harm and kill vast numbers of raptors and bats, will now be more tightly regulated, with shorter duration permits. It’s good news for the birds. The show concludes with Hannah Hartman passionately arguing for certification and oversight of pet groomers in California. Injuries to dogs, some fatal, because of negligence by groomers, unfortunately happens too often. Hannah is leading the effort to pass Lucy’s law to address this problem.
