The holidays are here, and we have food on our minds! So we thought it would be an ideal time to talk about plant-based, or vegan, diets.
In segment one, Lori explains why vegan diets are so healthful, and shoots down a few of the prevalent myths surrounding them. Make a resolution to improve your diet this year for your health, for the environment and of course, for the welfare of animals.
After the break, Lori and Peter share their personal stories on how they became vegan, highlighting that it’s usually a journey, and not an instantaneous change. Peter became vegetarian while in college, and Lori went veggie at age 13. Only years later did they become vegan, and they wish they had done it much sooner! We then share some of our favorite tips on how to begin the process of adopting a plant-based diet.
Then, Dr. Robert Reed joins Lori to tell us how to keep our companion animals safe during the holidays. There are many ingestion hazards, both food items like chocolate, and other objects like tinsel, tree ornaments and the water under the tree.
The show wraps up with Colleen Ellis from the Pet Loss Center to discuss the special challenges associated with losing a pet around holiday time, and how the holidays can be especially hard for people who have ever lost a beloved companion animal.
