Mutton busting puts both the child and the sheep at risk for serious injuries. A neurologist in my family, after viewing mutton busting, said it would only be a matter of time before one of those kids suffered permanent injuries. As a veterinarian, sheep are not designed to be ridden. Their bone structure and joints are subject to stress and injuries by weight on their backs.
I have seen videos where these little kids, as young as 3, are crying in fear. What’s the point of doing this to your child or the sheep? Nothing is gained and there is much to lose.
