This show features topics about dogs and begins with a discussion about training with Arizona State University animal behavior psychologist Clive Wynne. Dr. Wynne is concerned that there is growing confusion on how to best train dogs. Clive feels this is in large part due to misunderstandings about the concept of dominance, as well as the paucity of scientific research done to study training issues. Then we move on to dental hygiene in dogs, with Lori delivering a personal story illustrating why it is so crucial to regularly brush your dogs’ teeth. Then Lori welcomes Dr. Joel Griffies, a leading veterinary dermatologist to talk about canine allergies and his approach to itchy dogs. These are among the most common reasons for vet visits, and sometimes can pose real challenges in diagnoses and treatment. We wrap up with Lori’s discussion about the Iditarod sled dog race, which occurs in early March. Even though the dogs are bred to run, the race has devolved into a cruel and dangerous form of animal exploitation.
