Today’s show featured Dr. Elliot Katz from In Defense of Animals who described the Be a Guardian campaign. He feels the language we use to describe our relationships with our companion animals influences our attitudes and behaviors. So, he prefers the term guardian rather than owner. Then, Brandon Yanak, a young animal advocate, described how he convinced the city of Parma, Ohio to adopt new language in their animals ordinances – Parma is now a “guardian” city.
Then, Dr. Lori Marino joined us to lay out the controversy surrounding the Georgia Aquarium’s explanation of the death of an infant beluga in that facility.
